Anyone familiar with the Glock 19 already knows it’s one of the most reputable, dependable defensive pistols on the market. If you’re thinking about buying one, it only makes logical sense to consider one of its many clones, like the popular Ruger RXM, as well.

On paper, the Ruger RXM vs Glock 19 are incredibly similar. Both are chambered in 9mm and come standard with a 15-round capacity. Nearly the exact same size, both pistols come optics-ready and feature an accessory rail; a flat-faced trigger; internal and trigger safeties; and ergonomic frames. Both are high-performers, so the main differences come down to price, weight, and ergonomics.

In this article, we’ll compare the features and specs of both pistols to help you determine which is a better fit for your needs.

But it’s more than a clone. The RXM is known for its ergonomic design, extensive customization, and upgraded features, including an interchangeable Magpul-enhanced grip and removable stainless steel fire control insert.

The RXM also comes with a direct-mount optics-cut slide that’s compatible with RMR, DPP, and RMSc pattern optics. It has a low-profile, flared magazine well; a trigger guard undercut and beaver tail for better control; and an accessory rail for mounting a variety of lights and lasers.

FAQ: Ruger RXM vs Glock 19

Is the Ruger RXM a Glock clone?

The Ruger RXM is often described as a Glock 19 clone because it follows the general design and dimensions of the Glock 19 and is designed around Gen 3 Glock compatibility. However, the RXM is not simply a copy. Ruger and Magpul developed the pistol with its own features, including a removable Fire Control Insert, Magpul Enhanced Handgun Grip, optics-ready slide, and other design updates.

Will a Ruger RXM fit in a Glock 19 holster?

In many cases, yes. The Ruger RXM is designed with Gen 3 compatibility in mind, and many Glock 19 holsters will accommodate it. However, holster fit can vary by manufacturer and design, particularly with tightly molded Kydex holsters. For the most precise fit and reliable retention, a holster specifically made for the Ruger RXM is the best option. Unlike many brands that use blueguns in their manufacturing process, at Vedder Holsters, we mold our Ruger RXM holsters using a real RXM pistol for the most precise fit possible.

Which Is Right for Me?

Because they’re so similar in design and specifications, choosing between the Ruger RXM vs Glock 19 isn’t so simple. In terms of performance, both pistols have excellent user reviews. So, how do you decide which is right for you?

One of the big differences between the two is price. Because Glock is, well, Glock, many shooters will opt to go with the OG of this handgun design, despite the price difference. For others, the RXM offers everything they need in a pistol, and for $200 less, it’s a no-brainer.

If you’re a real stickler for weight and want the lightest CCW possible, the G19 does weigh about 3 ounces less than the RXM, though this difference is so slight that most people won’t be able to feel a difference.

Finally, if you’re looking to make modifications, the RXM may have a slight advantage.  Although all Glock pistols can be customized with aftermarket parts and accessories, the RXM’s interchangeable Magpul enhanced handgun grip makes this process that much easier right out of the box.

At the end of the day, whichever you choose, rest easy knowing that you’ve got a solid, reputable pistol that will work well for self-defense.
