Sig P226 vs P229: Size & Capacity
This primary difference between these two firearms is their size. While the Sig P226 is a full-size pistol, the Sig P229 is a smaller, more compact variation.
The Sig Sauer P226 is 5.5” tall, 7.7” long, and 1.5” wide, with a barrel length of 4.4” and a weight of 34 ounces. The P229, on the other hand, is 5.4” tall, 7.1” long, and 1.5” wide, with a barrel length of 3.9” and a weight of 34.4 ounces.
Both the P226 and P229 come standard with a 10-round or 15-round magazine for 9mm models or a 12-round magazine for .357 SIG and .40 S&W models. Both pistols have extended magazine options to increase the capacity if desired.

Frame
When it comes to frame, both of these gun models feature a hard-coat anodized finish frame to help protect them from rust and corrosion.
If you choose to purchase the Legion model of either the P226 or P229, you’ll find they feature a gray Cerakote coating versus the standard frame finish. Nitron models also include an accessory rail for adding lights and lasers to your CCW.
Comparing the standard and upgraded Sig P226 and Sig P229 grips, you’ll find a few variations between the different models. The Nitron models feature smaller E2 grips that accommodate shooters with smaller hands. Both the Legion and Equinox models, on the other hand, feature G10 grips, which are made from the high-strength G10 composite.
Slide & Barrel
Depending on the model you choose, there may be slight variations in the slide. The standard Sig P226 and Sig P229 feature Nitron-finished stainless steel slides in addition to carbon steel barrels.
Most models include rear slide serrations, but some may include front and rear serrations for easier racking.

The standard Nitron model features Sig’s SIGLITE Night sights which are easy to use and are great for low-light situations.
