HK CC9 vs HK P30SK: Which is The Better Design?

Heckler and Koch has long been known for crafting highly functional, quality firearms. If you’re looking for a well-designed pistol for concealed carry, it’s no wonder you’ve narrowed it down to these two handguns.

When comparing the HK CC9 vs HK P30SK, it’s hard to say that one is better than the other. Both are reliable, low-profile pistols that are well-suited for concealed carry. While both are chambered in 9mm, the P30SK is slightly larger than the CC9 and has higher capacity options as well as a manual safety. The CC9, however, comes optics-ready and has a +P-rated chassis system.

The right firearm for you all comes down to personal needs and preferences. In this article, we’ll cover all the differences between these two guns to help you determine which is the right choice for you.

HK CC9

HK CC9 handgun

Heckler & Koch’s CC9 is the manufacturer’s smallest double-stack handgun, and it is designed to be “a little gun that shoots more like a big gun in your hand.” Made based on the same quality standards as HK’s larger full-sized pistols and tested to NATO Army standards, this little gun has been exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, sand, mud, and drops to ensure reliability.

Available with a 10- or 12-round capacity, this pistol is chambered in 9mm and weighs just 18.4 ounces. It has two interchangeable backstraps and a Picatinny style rail for mounting a variety of accessories.

Designed with a +P-rated chassis system, a cold hammer-forged cannon-grade steel barrel, and an advanced trigger system, the CC9 is optics-ready and developed for enhanced recoil management.

HK P30SK

The Heckler & Koch P30SK is the subcompact version of HK’s popular P30 model. Built with all the same features as its larger framed predecessor but in a concealable package, the P30SK is an excellent choice for concealed carry.

This versatile pistol has interchangeable backstraps, lateral grip panels, and multiple trigger firing module options to choose from, making it a highly customizable firearm.

Available with a 10, 13, or 15-round capacity, the P30SK is chambered in 9mm and weighs just 23.99 ounces with an empty magazine. It has a Picatinny style rail for mounting accessories and a fixed front and adjustable rear 3-dot sight.

HK CC9 vs P30SK: Size & Capacity

HK CC9 vs P30SK Size Comparison

Although fairly similar in terms of dimensions, the P30SK is classified as a subcompact pistol while the CC9 is a micro compact. The biggest difference between the size of these two firearms is in their width and weight. The HK CC9 weighs 18.4 ounces and measures 4.6 inches tall, 0.99 inches wide, and 6.03 inches long with a barrel length of 3.32 inches. The HK P30SK, on the other hand, weighs 23.99 ounces and measures 4.57 inches tall, 1.37 inches wide, and 6.42 inches long with a barrel length of 3.27 inches.

Both guns are chambered in 9mm. The HK CC9 is available with a 10 or 12-round capacity, and the P30SK comes with your choice of 10, 13, and 15-round magazines.

HK P30SK vs CC9: Frame, Slide & Barrel

The P30SK is built with a high-strength polymer frame and a carbon steel slide with a nitro-carburized finish and front and rear serrations. It has a cold hammer forged barrel made from canon-grade steel and a dustcover with a Picatinny rail. The P30SK’s grip has an ergonomic design, interchangeable grip panels, interchangeable backstraps, and molded finger grooves for a more secure grip.

The HK CC9 is designed with a steel slide and barrel, finished with a DLC coating. It features slide serrations and an undercut trigger guard for greater control of the pistol. Like the P30SK, it has interchangeable backstraps and a Picatinny rail for added customization.

HK CC9 vs HK P30SK Side by Side Sights & Optics

The HK CC9 comes with a factory high visibility tritium front sight and a blacked-out serrated rear sight. It’s also optics-ready and features an RMSc / 407k footprint. The HK P30SK is not optics-ready but has non-radioactive luminous front sights that are adjustable for both elevation and windage and an open rectangular rear sight with contrast dots.

HK P30SK vs HK CC9: Controls

Trigger

The P30SK is available with multiple trigger options depending on your preference, including a double action/single action trigger with a decocker and two “Law Enforcement Modification” variants that are double action only.

The striker-fired HK CC9 features an enhanced trigger system with a crisp reset and the same length as HK’s full-sized VP9 pistol, making it optimized for recoil management and faster follow-up shots.

Safety

Although it does not come with a manual thumb safety, the CC9 features a trigger safety that must be pressed down to fire, in addition to an out-of-battery safety and a firing pin/drop safety. The P30SK features an ambidextrous thumb safety as well as automatic hammer and firing pin safeties.

Which is Right For Me?

When comparing the HK CC9 vs HK P30SK, it’s hard to say that one is definitively better than the other. The best one for you all comes down to your personal needs and preferences. However, there are a few differences between the two that may influence your decision.

Although similar in size and capacity, the micro compact HK CC9 is slightly smaller and lighter than the subcompact P30SK. While they both feature a Picatinny-style rail and interchangeable backstraps for easy customization, the P30SK features manual safety, while the CC9 offers a +P-rated chassis system and is optics-ready.
