Sig P365 X-Macro vs Sig P365 AXG Legion: Which Makes a Better CCW?

Sig P365 X-Macro vs Sig P365 AXG Legion: Which Makes a Better CCW?

Sig Sauer has dominated the world of compact concealed carry pistols for years, in large part thanks to its ever-popular P365 series. Reliable, concealable, and efficient at its base, and with so many variations that offer something for everyone, it’s easy to see why.

Two of the hottest P365 variations to hit the scene in recent years are the P365 X-Macro and the P365 AXG Legion. While both pistols are designed for concealed carry and pack a higher round capacity than most into a compact frame, they do have some important distinctions.

So, what is the difference between the Sig P365 X-Macro vs Sig P365 AXG Legion?

The P365 AXG Legion is based on the P365 X-Macro, and the two have many similarities. Both are compact, 9mm, striker-fired guns with a 17+1 capacity, an accessory rail, and an optics-ready slide. It’s the frames of these pistols that really set them apart. The AXG Legion is built with a metal frame, making it heavier than the polymer X-Macro.

In this article, we’ll cover everything that makes these two P365 models different to help you decide which is a better fit for you.

Sig Sauer P365 X-Macro

When Sig Sauer launched the P365 X-MACRO, it did not disappoint. This extra-concealable version of the P365 hit the concealed carry scene in strides, offering a greater capacity in a nice, small package.

The compact X-MACRO was designed to offer everything the standard P365 offers and then some, touted as being smoother and more accurate to shoot, having a higher round capacity, and a more concealable frame than its predecessors.

Chambered in 9mm, the X-MACRO has a whopping 17+1 capacity in a 21.5 ounce frame. It measures 5.2 inches tall, 1.1 inches wide, and 5.9 inches long with a barrel length of 3.1 inches.

The Sig Sauer P365 X-MACRO features an optics-ready slide, a standard 1913 rail, interchangeable backstraps, and an integrated compensator that reduces muzzle flip for faster, more accurate follow-up shots. This pistol is everything that made the P365 such a legendary CCW, and then some.

Another exciting upgrade came to the P365 lineup when Sig Sauer announced that a variation of the model would join the premium Legion series — the Sig Sauer P365 AXG Legion.

Although similar to the X-Macro, the P365 AXG Legion is all metal and comes with all the benefits that come with owning a pistol in Sig Sauer’s Legion family. Legion owners have special membership privileges, including exclusive products, events, and Sig Experience Center Club 1751 access.

Chambered in 9mm, the AXG Legion also boasts a 17+1 capacity. It weighs 34 ounces and measures 5.2 inches tall, 1.4 inches wide, and 8.2 inches long with a barrel length of 3.1 inches. The AXG Legion’s added weight offers better control and improved accuracy without becoming too heavy to carry comfortably.

The Sig Sauer P365 AXG Legion features an extended slim magwell, an optics-ready slide with an integrated compensator, an XSeries flat trigger, and the AXG grip module. This pistol combines everything we know and love from the P365 and combines it with the premier performance and features of the Legion family.

Sig P365 X-Macro vs P365 AXG Legion: Size & Capacity

Both the Sig P365 X-Macro and AXG Legion are chambered in 9mm with a standard 17+1 capacity. The mags for both are designed with the same thin frame as the base P365, with a significantly higher capacity.

Although these pistols are nearly identical in size, the AXG Legion is a bit longer and wider than the X-Macro and, thanks to its metal frame, weighs quite a bit more. The AXG Legion weighs 34 ounces and measures 5.2 inches tall, 1.4 inches wide, and 8.2 inches long with a barrel length of 3.1 inches. The X-Macro, on the other hand, weighs 21.5 ounces and measures 5.2 inches tall, 1.1 inches wide, and 5.9 inches long with a barrel length of 3.1 inches.

If size and weight are determining factors for you, the best choice between these two will depend on whether you’re looking for the lightest and smallest frame possible, like the X-Macro, or the luxury shooting experience that the heavier AXG Legion can offer.

The frame is perhaps the biggest differentiating factor between the AXG Legion and the X-Macro.

The Sig P365 X-MACRO is built with a macro compact polymer grip module, while the AXG Legion has an alloy macro grip frame. Both have a carbon steel barrel, integrated compensators, and stainless steel slides with front and rear serrations. The AXG Legion’s slide is finished with a gray cerakote, and the X-Macro has a corrosion- and scratch-resistant Nitron finish. Both models are equipped with a 1913 Picatinny accessory rail, making it easy to add various sights, lights, and lasers.

The grip is also different on both guns. While the X-Macro features interchangeable backstraps, the AXG Legion comes with custom G10 Chevron grip panels.

X-Macro vs AXG Legion: Sights & Optics

Both of these weapons are equipped with Sig’s X-RAY3 day and night sights, a 3-dot Tritium system designed to provide a glowing illumination in low-light conditions. These pistols also both have a 5.1-inch sight radius.

The X-Macro and AXG Legion are both optics-ready.

Trigger

Both pistols are striker-fired and built with flat triggers designed to create a larger surface area and more leverage than their curved trigger counterparts, making successive shots faster and easier. These triggers also have a slight lip at the end, which can aid in indexing — or transitioning between targets.

Safety

Neither the Sig Sauer P365 AXG Legion nor the X-Macro comes standard with a manual thumb safety. Variations of the X-Macro are available with a thumb safety if that’s important to you.

Which is Right For Me?

If you’re looking to choose between the Sig P365 X-Macro vs Sig P365 AXG Legion, you’ve already made a good call. Both of these pistols are high-performing, feature-rich, and excellent for concealed carry.

While the two guns are incredibly similar, their differences may make one more appealing to you than the other, and it all comes down to your intent and preferences. The X-Macro is slightly shorter and thinner than the AXG Legion, and its polymer frame weighs significantly less than the AXG Legion’s all-metal frame.

If you’re strictly looking for the lightest, smallest option for concealed carry, the X-Macro is probably the best option for you. If you’re interested in a more premium shooting experience, the AXG Legion’s heavier frame offers more control and improved accuracy.
